The former Liberty Professionals midfielder quits the Black Stars after a decade of international duties.
Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has retired from international football to re-launch his club career, the player confirmed on Tuesday.
Now 32, the former Fulham, Rayo Vallecano and Eibar player earned his first call up to the Black Stars in 2001 and appeared 46 times, scoring one goal.
However, he last played for the team in 2013 when he made Ghana's squad to the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
“Right now to be honest with you, I need to step aside for the young players that are coming,” Boateng told the Graphic Sports on Wednesday.
“The young players are doing well. They are running very good and playing football, we need to support them as old players.
“We need to pray for them so that they can bring something to the society because once they win, we all win as well,” he said.
Earlier this week, Boateng announced he was weighing up offers from Sweden and Saudi Arabia, but could return to former club AIK Solna.
He has also plied his trade at Panathinaikos, FC Koln and Getafe.
