Govt Denies Attempts To Tap Phone Calls

The Deputy Communications Minister Felix Kwakye-Ofosu has debunked claims that government wants to tap into private call conversations of citizens in the country.

According to Obuasi West NPP MP NPP, Kwaku Kwarteng, government is seeking to pass into law, a bill that will guarantee access to call conversations in Ghana.

Making the revelation on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday, Hon Kwarteng said: “we will fight it (bill) to the teeth”

However, speaking in an interview on PEACE FM midday news, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu accused Hon Kwarteng of misleading Ghanaians.

He said government is not interested in tapping call conversations adding: "we are just establishing an inter-connect clearing house, so the legislation is supposed to provide legal backing for it....look at the number of people in this country...and so I can assure you that government is not trying to sneak in on phone conversations"
