Volta NPP Suspends 2 Officers Over Afoko

The Volta Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended two of its constituency executives.

The decision followed two separate petitions filed against Godfred Kudalor, NPP Organiser for Akatsi North constituency and Pope Yao Yevoo, NPP Secretary for Ketu North constituency.

The two are reported to have taken part in the recent demonstration at the party’s national headquarters where the protestors demanded the reinstatement of suspended National Chairman Paul Afoko.

According to the group which was drawn from a few constituencies from the Volta Region, the National Executive Council and the Council of Elders erred in suspending Afoko. They also described as illegal the steering of affairs by Freddie Blay, the First Deputy Chairman who is acting as the National Chairman.

At a Regional Executive Committee meeting last Friday, the two individuals were suspended with immediate effect, pending further action by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

A press statement copied to DAILY GUIDE said the two constituency officers were suspended for gross misconduct in violation of article 4, clause 7 a (i) and (vii) of the party’s constitution.

The statement stressed that “they have been suspended with immediate effect and referred to the disciplinary committee for further action.”

The Deputy Regional Communications Director of the party, Enoch Amegbletor, explained that the conduct of the two party officers contravened the party’s constitution.

He added that they made some utterances during the protest, which the party deemed to have exposed the NPP to public ridicule.

In the news video tape available to DAILY GUIDE, Pope for instance is heard saying he “won’t, as a constituency secretary, take directives from acting chairman and his cohorts.”

Akatsi South Rejoinder

In a related development, the Akatsi South constituency executives have dissociated themselves from the said demonstration.

A rejoinder served DAILY GUIDE said a publication in the paper on 6th November, 2015 purported that some members of the NPP from the Volta Region were calling for the reinstatement of the embattled National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The publication reported that party supporters from Akatsi also participated in the recent pro-Afoko protest in Accra.

They however clarified that Akatsi South and Akatsi North constituencies are not the same. Akatsi South has its district capital at Akatsi whilst Akatsi North has Ave-Dakpa as its capital.

In view of this, the demonstrators who were said to be from Akatsi were actually from Akatsi North.

The rejoinder stated that the publication “is not about Akatsi South whose district or constituency capital is Akatsi.” The constituency therefore “affirms its unalloyed commitment to the decision of the Council of Elders of the party, the Disciplinary Committee and the National Executive Committee (NEC).”

They urged all party members to also respect the decision of the party.
