Stop Messing With Our Businesses Youth Business Network Cautions Govt

The Executive Secretary of the Youth Business Network; an association of Ghanaian youth entrepreneurs; Solomon Adjei, has issued a stern warning to the President Mahama administration to stop messing with their businesses.

The Finance Minister; Hon. Seth E. Tekper, on Friday, November 13th delivered the 2016 budget to Ghana’s Parliament, of which all indication shows no clear cut measures to end the erratic power crises facing the country anytime soon.

And to make things worse, President Mahama echoed such call at Tamale on Saturday that the dumsor should be expected to end in 2016 instead of the earlier promised date of December 2015, but the association finds this to be so disheartening.

Why all these ‘vain’ promises? Why can’t the Government be truthful to us? He fumed.

With the high rate of youth unemployment facing the country, it is obvious that the sure way out is entrepreneurship. But then, where do you get the power to work effectively to take care of yourself and your family? Mr. Adjei quizzed.

The Youth Business Network membership consists mostly of artisans, including Fashion designers, Beauticians, Website and Graphic Designers, among others, but most of them can no more survive due to lack of power.

We have heard lots of promises, including power badges that were supposed to arrive in April 2015, but no show as at now, among others, to the extent of the Power Minister; Dr. Kwabena Donkor promising to resign if the crisis does not end in December this year, a promise we are waiting on him to fulfill honorably.

But seriously, where are we heading towards now? Our businesses are collapsing, and the least we expect from our leaders is honesty, but it seems that is never going to be the case.

Is the President just trying to score cheap political points with the dumsor, hence shifting all attention to the election year, citing; Dumsor will end before election 2016?

What has this national problem got to do with elections? Is he saying we must put our businesses on hold till then? The President must sit up, and put up serious strategic measures to end this crisis now, instead of waiting till election time, he warned.
