Professor Agyemang Badu-Akosa, Pathologist, has said that Human Resource Development will ensure rapid development in the country.
He said this begins at the basic level of education and thrives at the Secondary education level and so quality education must be provided at this level.
Prof. Badu-Akosah was speaking as the quest speaker at the 66th Speech and Prize –Giving Day celebration of the Prempeh College in Kumasi.
He spoke of the theme “Holistic SHS education, a prerequisite for National Development”.
Prof. Akosah, who is also an old boy of the college, stressed that secondary education broadens the minds and thinking of students at that level and enables them to do logistical and analytical thinking.
The huge equity gap at the secondary level needs to be bridged saying that the core subjects must be made compulsory to every student at the secondary level.
He also called for the need for Vocational and Technical training as well as Information Communication Technology (ICT) training in secondary education.
Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Yeboah, Headmaster of the college, also said the school scored 100 per cent the recent West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) inspires of the calamitous nationwide results, especially in the core subjects.
A student of the school by name Joseph Amo Addai placed first in an International Air Cadet Exchange Programme in which 20 countries participated in August this year in the United Kingdom.
Mr Yeboah said these are some reasons why the school is oversubscribed and this call for expansion of facilities to accommodate the overwhelming number of boys who desire to attend the school.
He said an 18-unit classroom block as well as a 2500 capacity Assembly hall are yet to be completed and the Science laboratory which is in a bad state will soon rehabilitated.
The Headmaster said the old boys of the school have with the contraction of borehole, refurbishment of the Osae Assembly hall renovation of pantry, construction of 2 semi-detached 3-bedroom bungalow for the staff and provided a solar project doe the main classrooms.
He took the opportunity to announce his retirement from service with effect from the 3rd of December, 2015.
Oheneba Aduse POku, who represented the Asantehene and also an old boy of the school, commended the school for, excelling in the WASSCE and placing first in the recent National Science and Mathematics Quiz.
Awards were presented to students who had excelled academically as well as hardworking staff and the 1990 old students’ year group also presented the school with GHC22,000.
