Amoako Tuffuor To Mahama: It Takes A Good President To Accept Insults

President Mahama’s “incompetent” comment, jabbing the 2016 Running Mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has pushed the former Boss of School Feeding Program, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor to condemn the President’s reaction.

President John Dramani Mahama lashed out at some elements in the opposition especially New Patriotic Party's Vice Presidential Candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for continually describing him as incompetent.

In an unusually fiery speech at the launch of Greater Accra NDC Agenda 2016 in Accra on Monday, the President lambasted leaders of NPP, saying they did not know what it meant to be President.

Singling out Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for criticism, President Mahama said the running mate to the NPP flagbearer had not held any position or undertaken any responsibility that came close to the work of the President, yet he always saw the need to call him incompetent.

He said he would not mind if former President Jerry Rawlings or President John Kufuor called him incompetent, but would not accept that from people like Dr. Bawumia.

But reacting to President Mahama’s statement on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor said it takes a good President to accept insults and find out the reason for the constant insults on his administration.

He reminded President Mahama that the likes of Dr. Bawumia in the country should be enough to tap advice from him without being the Vice President before considering his critics; stressing that citizens have a right to say what they think in this era of democratic dispensation.

“President Mahama is not a good President if he is afraid to be insulted. Presidents from America, England and Germany receive insults. I want President Mahama to understand that if you have somebody like Dr. Bawumia in your country, he does not have to be Vice President before he advises you,” he chided.

“If you listen to what people are saying in the country, you won’t condemn Dr. Bawumia; the President should find out what are the reasons…if your administration is effective, everybody will see it,” he added.

He urged President Mahama to find out quietly from genuine people like Dr. Bawumia what he is doing wrong for people to draw a conclusion that his administration is incompetent; reiterating “you only need advice from the critics”.
