The Minister for Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has called on governing councils of Polytechnics in the country to develop and adopt strategic plans for their institutions.

Addressing stakeholders in a speech delivered on her behalf at the induction ceremony of Prof. John Frank Eshun as rector of Takoradi Polytechnic, the minister said the adoption of a strategic plan will guide both present and future heads of the institution to espouse their visions on a collectively-agreed plan for transformation.

She called on management of the Polytechnic to work towards strengthening the teaching and learning environment and infrastructure for effective transition in anticipation of a conversion to technical university status by September, 2016.

For his part, Prof. Eshun pledged to make the Polytechnic attractive through partnerships with corporate  organisations as well as donors to ensure financial sustainability and long-term viability.

The immediate past Rector, Prof. Daniel Adjepong Nyarko, pledged unflinching support to his successor and appealed for collaboration between  labour groups within the institution and the new administration.
