Expect a peaceful Christmas season - Police

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maxwell S. Atingani, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, has said the Police is prepared to provide effective security during the celebration of this year’s Christmas in the Region.

DCOP Atingani gave the assurance on Friday in Sunyani during a media briefing on measures the Regional Command had put in place to ensure peace in the coming Yuletide festivity.

He said as part of the measures being employed, the Police have began escorting vehicles, especially during the nights to ensure safe arrival at various destinations and added that they would also be patrolling towns and villages.

DCOP Atingani announced the Police had intensified their day and night patrols, saying that stand-by patrol vehicles and personnel were available to respond to calls against crimes promptly.

He said the Police had mounted 57 snap check points in the Region to engage in random checks on passengers and vehicles to prevent criminals from bringing arms and ammunitions into the Region.

The Regional Police Commander appealed to the general public to cooperate with the Police for the success of the exercise.

DCOP Atingani also requested that the general public report any suspicious gathering of two or three people especially in the bush to the Police for quick intervention.

He said the Police would rely on the media, especially the local FM stations to educate the general public on how to protect themselves from attacks and robbery in the Christmas festivities.

He said the Police Administration nationwide has launched a special operation, dubbed: “Operation Father Christmas” to fight crimes in this year’s Christmas celebration.
