Adam Kwarasey Admits Tough Start In Major League Soccer

The Timbers goalkeeper reveals that he did not find things easy at first in Major League Soccer after arriving from Norway.

Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has revealed he initially struggled to cope with life in Major League Soccer after joining from Europe in December 2014.

The 27-year-old opted not to extend his contract after seven seasons with Norwegian side Stromsgodest, moving to Portland in Oregon to seal a deal with the Timbers.

“It's been challenging for me to get to know everybody quickly and also try to perform,” Kwarasey told Oregonlive.

“It took a couple of months just to get used to everything. It’s my first time playing club football abroad [Outside Norway]. MLS is just different from what I'm used to in Europe,” he added.

Kwarasey has been one of the outstanding signings in MLS after keeping 13 clean sheets in 33 games and has helped the Timbers to qualify into the playoffs.

He was named Timbers Community Player of the Year and his save against New York City in the playoffs has been nominated for the best save of the MLS season.

He has been capped 22 times by Ghana but bowed out of the team following a dispute with a member of the technical staff during the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
