Water Aid Ghana has developed a five-year (2016 - 2020) strategy to build relevant institutions and drive transformational change to ensure safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) by 2030.
Dr Afia Zakyia, Country Representative of Water Aid Ghana, who announced this in Tamale, said the strategy, which would be launched in January, would see Water Aid Ghana tackle the existing inequalities within the strategy.
She was speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the Regional Office of Water Aid Ghana in Tamale.
The ceremony also marked the celebration of Water Aid Ghana’s 30-year journey and progress towards universal access to sustainable WASH services by 2030.
Dr Zakyia said as part of the implementation of the strategy, Water Aid Ghana would support government and service providers to strengthen the system and capabilities required to deliver sustainable WASH services.
She said the organization would also work with others to develop plans and activities that would accelerate change by integrating WASH into sustainable development programmes.
Hajia Mariame Dem, Head of Water Aid West Africa, said there was the need for all partners to do more to promote WASH services in the communities and called for increased funding of WASH services.
Mr Alhassan Mohammed Sorogudoo, District Chief Executive of Sagnarigu, said the District was making an effort to extend safe drinking water to a number of communities within its jurisdiction.
He commended Water Aid Ghana for its initiatives to promote WASH especially in rural areas across the country.
Water Aid Ghana, an international non-governmental organization, has been working to transform lives by improving access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene in the poorest communities across the country.
