Ghana Gas Confirms Shut Down Of Aboadze Thermal Plant

The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has confirmed that as a result of works currently taking place at the Aboadze Power Enclave to tie-in the AMERI Plant to the VRA facilities, it has ceased processing and supplying of Gas to the Aboadze Thermal Plant.

According to a statement signed by Dr. George Sipa-Yankey, Chief Executive of Ghana Gas, “this is to protect the integrity of the ongoing works and the facilities of both VRA and Ghana Gas and also to ensure the safety of VRA and Ghana Gas Engineers working on the Project”.

It is expected that when the tie-in works are completed, the AMERI plant will generate about 250MW of power. This will bring the total production of power generated at the Aboadze Plant to about 850MW.

“Ghana Gas, as part of its collaborative effort with VRA and to expedite the tie-in works, supplied all the piping, valves and fittings for the works at the Aboadze. In addition, Ghana Gas and VRA engineers are jointly working around the clock to complete the works on time…Ghana Gas has confidence in the efforts of the Ministry of Power and Government to end the current power challenges, and is committed to continuing with its close collaboration with VRA and other relevant agencies to realize this goal” the statement added.
