Veep Task NIC To Educate The Informal Sector On The Importance Of Insurance

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has entreated players in the insurance industry to devise innovative and attractive insurance packages for the informal sector especially artisans and traders.

The Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur made the statement on the 25th of November 2015 when he launched the Golden Jubilee of the National Insurance Commission in Accra. And also outdoor the commission's re-branded logo and colour.

He said they me more innovative in their ways of doing things in the sector, especially there are areas in the insurance industry that they are not taping into so the need to do that .Adding that often when disasters such as fire ravages markets, the worst affected have no protection and so the government takes on the burden by looking for many from outside the budget to support those affected.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur tasked the National Insurances Commission as a matter of urgency take the lead in educating the public especially those in the informal sector on the importance of insurance to make it more lucrative for people to join.

He called on the players in the insurance industry and challenged them to fully exploit the opportunities and the potential of the industry for the development of the economy so that it would help those who go for insurance in the country. So the need to do better and open up the sector to serious business

The Vice President also took the opportunity to congratulate all the former commissioners on the commission together with the commission the feat that they have achieves so far in that area.  And that the potential of the insurance industry is great for the country.

 On her part The Commissioner of Insurance, Lydia Bawa, said the commission has over the years, implemented policies and programmes which have improved the liquidity base of insurance companies. These, she said have helped them to pay claims promptly.
