Aston Villa Struggles Will Affect Jordan Ayew - Avram Grant

The former Chelsea boss insists that Villa's poor run of matches in the Premier League will affect the output of the Black Stars’ forward.

Ghana coach Avram Grant claims Aston Villa's poor form in the English Premier League will affect the psyche of Ghana international Jordan Ayew.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Villas from Lorient in August, suffered a poor start but seems to have found his rhythm in Remi Garde's side, who are struggling to survive relegation.

“It’s not good for Ayew,” Grant said on Sky Sports. “When you’re playing in a team that’s struggling, it’s not easy to perform, especially as a striker when the midfield doesn’t have a lot of confidence.

“I’m sure if the team was better, he would be better. It shows a lot about his character,” he added.

However, Grant lauded the former Marseille striker's talent, noting that he is a big potential who is progressing rapidly.

“He has big potential,” Grant added. “He’s a guy who controls the ball very well. He’s strong, has a lot of qualities and is doing very well.

“It’s not easy to perform well in a team that’s struggling, so the thing which is most important is all his progress – he keeps getting better and better. He’s a good striker.”

Ayew has scored three goals in 10 games and he is the joint top scorer of the club alongside Rudy Gestede.
