Hon Avoka Should Resign Or Be Sacked By Prez Mills

In the wake of the six deaths in a renewed inter-ethnic feud in Bawku on Sunday, the MP for Bawku Central, Hon Adamu Daramani-Sakande, and a youth group have asked President Atta Mills to fire Hon. Cletus Avorka, the Minister of the Interior. As sector Minister for the internal security agency, Hon. Cletus Avoka, who hails from one of the feuding ethnic groups, Kusasi, according to the MP, failed to work on warning signals about the looming violence. He was speaking to the media yesterday during which he said had the minister acted swiftly in response to the signals towards the looming violence, what took place over the weekend could have been obviated. The MPs call which preceded yesterdays scheduled meeting in the town, pointed at the recent pictorial and textural publication in a newspaper of an alleged guerilla training activities in Bawku but which the Interior Minister pushed under the carpet. If we were living in other jurisdictions where people had principles, he would have resigned without any prodding, Hon. Daramani-Sakande said about the Interior Minister, who he described as his senior brother. The MP appeared to have confirmed the existence of a guerrilla training centre in Bawku when he said, forget about personal utterances but the fact is that, first there is weapon training at his backyard; everybody in this country knows everybody (else) and everybody in Bawku knows everybody (else). He expressed amazement that the Minister would seek to discredit the authenticity of the pictures when according to him those undertaking the training were youth known by resident of the volatile town. Questioning the motive of the Interior minister for trying to douse the seriousness of the guerrilla training picture, the MP said, these are cowboys holding rifles, AK 47 rifles and all he does is to try and discredit the pictures. What is his motive? the Bawku Central MP quizzed, adding, he should resign or be sacked by President Mills.
