Residents of Tema Community 18 on the Spintex Road in Accra are at their wits end on how to deal with the alleged thuggery and barbarity being meted out to them by a certain person who claims to be a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a Special Advisor to President John Evans Atta Mills. Maxwell Opoku claims that he is a Special Advisor to the President and in that capacity, has allegedly been threatening and tormenting residents especially his neighbours at Tema Community 18. According to residents in the area they have not had peace at all since the NDC came to power because Maxwell Opoku always brings police from the Buffalo Unit to attack, harass and intimidate them. The latest incident which sparked a confrontation between Mr Opoku and his neighbours centered on the house in which he lives and which as sold to him by one Evans Kumah with the exception of one shop on an adjourning and operated by a gentleman called Philip. Mr Opoku has been trying to lay claim to the ownership of the said shop and adjourning land. Information gathered by the Daily Searchlight indicates that on the 28 August, Philip who is the owner of the shop did not close his door for a long time, but came later to close his door. He was however confronted by Mr Opoku, who told him to stop closing the door or he would shoot him. According to some of the residents, Mr Opoku has been threatening his fellow residents with this gun at the least provocation, even though the bone of contention between him and Philip is now before a court of law, which has ordered him to stop his harassment until the verdict is pronounced. This has however not gone down well with the Castle man, who has still been harassing his neighbour.
