Nkoranza District Assembly holds emergency meeting on ineffective policies

Mr Isaac Asirifi-Kudom, Presiding Member of Nkoranza South District Assembly, has called for the effective implementation of policies and programmes adopted at the sessional meetings and sittings of the assembly. The Presiding Member who made the call at an emergency meeting of the assembly at Nkoranza expressed concern about the undue delay in the implementation of the decisions and programmes of members, noting that the trend would not augur well for the Assembly. Since members are accountable to their electorate and inform them about programmes initiated, they would lose the peoples trust and confidence if they are not implemented, he stressed. The Presiding Member urged the assembly members to support revenue collectors to generate more funds to accelerate the development of the district. Mr. Agyekum said the assembly had planned to construct a community learning and resource centre at Nkoranza and three classroom blocks at Dassagwa, Kyirefere, Camp and Apesika towards the promotion of education in the district. The assembly will also renovate accommodation facilities at Nkoranza for the district office of the Judiciary Service and the District Police Headquarters, as well as construct a police station and a three unit childrens ward at Saint Theresas hospital. He said the assembly would liaise with the Department of Feeder Roads towards the rehabilitation of a number of roads in the district to facilitate the movement of the people and their farm produce to marketing centres. Mr. Agyekum appealed to the assembly members to educate their people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enjoy free and quality medical care. Nana Okofo Agyapong 111, Chairman of the Finance and Administration Sub-committee of the assembly called for a task force to check the activities of traders who evade payment of taxes and monitor the activities of revenue collectors. Meanwhile the assembly has decided to erect barriers at the districts boundaries to check the activities of traders and farmers who evade tax.
