Embezzlement Charges Fly Over NUGS Prez

The out-going National union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mr. Ishmael Tweneboa Kodua, has been accused of redrawing GHC 500 from the unions accounts and lodging it in his personnel accounts. According to some Executive Members of the union, before the redraw of the said amount, the National Secretariat agreed that an amount GHC 5000 be withdrawn to settle the unions debts in chronological order of when it was accrued. The National Secretariat further agreed that the money should be cashed from the Ghana Commercial Bank high street branch they told the media at a press conference in Accra. Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved executives, Mr. Bill Jones Owusu Yeboah, the out-going General Secretary of the union submitted that the President however did not turn up at the bank and left the Financial Controller of the union at the bank between the hours of 9am 2pm. When we contacted him he arranged for a rendezvous point but never showed up. The bankers however confirmed that the cheques of GHC 5000 had been withdrawn at a different branch in Accra he said. Mr. Yeboah continued that after the withdrawal of the money, the President (Ishmael) has not reported back to the Unions Secretariat. We have also received letter from various campuses accusing the President of diverting the unions assets he alleged. He contended that at the Unions congress held in Kumasi on August 16 20, 2009, the President unilaterally appointed the Judicial Committee without consulting the national executives. Prior to this, he sought to influence the vetting committee constituted to assess the quality of aspirants running for the national position he added. Meanwhile, when the New Crusading Guide contacted the out going President Mr. Ishmael Tweneboa Kodua, he stated that the said amount of money was used to settle debts by the union adding that the so called aggrieved executives did not support the idea because the GHC5000 was the only money the union was having, so they decided they we should share the money among ourselves and I told them it would not be possible because we needed to settle some companies that we were owing, this executives did not second the idea and I took the decision myself to settle the said companies before they call for my arrest.
