The Eastern Regional Office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has invested GHȼ10 million to upgrade its systems and improve the quality of service to power consumers.

Mr. Michael Baah, the Regional Manager, said this involved the implementation of 172 major and minor projects.

Added to these is the completion of a US$4 million Bulk Supply Point (BSP) at Nkwakaw to boost electricity supply to Donkorkrom, Nkwakaw, Mpraeso and New Abirem.

Speaking to journalists after an inspection of the Nkawkaw sub-station, he said the BSP project was funded by the World Bank.

He identified bills payment default, illegal power connection and cables theft, as the main factors hampering the smooth operation of the company.

He urged consumers to make sure that they paid for the electricity consumed and warned those stealing power cables and connecting electricity to their homes and businesses to stop.

Mr. Baah again expressed concern about the situation where electricity poles were damaged through wildfires and asked everybody to take responsibility to protect the poles and distribution lines.

The company presently serves a customer population of 234,509 in the region.
