Ministry Unhappy About Release Of Rape Suspect

The Ministry of Women and Childrens Affairs has urged the Manhyia to ensure justice in a case in which Sumaila Iddrisu, a suspected rapist is said to have been released on bail by the Mahyia Police without recourse to the court of Law. The Ministry made the appeal today in a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer Mrs. Adiza Ofori Adu on behalf of the sector Minister, Hon. Akua Sena Dansua. The Ministry noted that Sumaila Iddrisu who is believed to be in his early 20s was arrested a week ago by the Manhyia Police but was released 3 days later for lack of enough evidence even before the regional office of the Domestic Violence and Victim support Unit (DOVVSU) became aware of the case. The Ministry of Women and Childrens Affairs reminded the police and other law enforcement agencies that defilement and rape offences are serious criminal offences which require thorough investigations and must therefore not be treated lightly under any circumstance.
