Ejura-Sekyedumase GHS prepares for H1NI influenza

The Ejura-Sekyedumase District Directorate of Ghana Health Service (GHS) with the support of World vision international (WVI) is taking contingency measures to contain the outbreak of communicable diseases like the H1N1 influenza 2009 in the area. As part of the measures, the WVI, an international non-governmental organisation has donated assorted drugs, 50 boxes of first aid, four bicycles and funds for the capacity building of Community-Based Surveillance Volunteers (CBSVs), Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and the staff of health institutions in the district at an estimated cost of GH�7,000. Mr Jacob Yaw Amoah, District Director of the GHS made this known at a sensitization programme for stakeholders in the health sector at Ejura on Tuesday. He thanked the WVI for the support and appealed to stakeholders to work as a team to ensure qualitative health care in the area. Dr Edward Amoah Boateng, Medical Director at Saint Luke Hospital at Kasei in the district, who spoke on the H1NI influenza, advised the public to cultivate the habit of washing their hands with soap and report all suspected cases to the nearest health facilities for treatment. Mr Sylvanus Gaenyoame, Programme Officer of WVI, praised the CBSVs and TBAs for their commitment and spirit of volunteerism. The 38 TBAs were presented with first aid kits while the CBSVs received the four bicycles donated. Mr James Zufaa, a community health nurse at Kyenkyenkura Sub-district, received a special award from the directorate for his hard work and devotion to duty.
