Fake �Doctor� Terminates Woman�s Pregnancy

A self-styled doctor who  allegedly injected a pregnant woman leading to termination of her pregnancy, has been arrested by the police at Odorkor in Accra.

Daniel Yartey 37, alias Doctor Nartey, a Senior High School leaver, was said to have posed as a medical doctor of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra and operated as such for the past seven years.

Medical implements such us a drip bag and a connecting tube were retrieved from him after his arrest by the police.

The Odorkor Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Aboagye Nyarko, told The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, that on November 20, the complainant, Gifty Mensah, who was a shop attendant was two months pregnant before the incident.

He said Gifty and her boyfriend were at home when Nartey approached them and introduced himself as a medical doctor at KBTH.

He said Gifty complained of fever and Nartey was invited to inject her and then gave her a pill to take.

ACP Aboagye-Nyarko stated that immediately after receiving the injection, she started bleeding and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The commander said it was detected at the hospital the pregnancy was aborted due to the injection and the medicine.

ACP Aboagye-Nyarko said Gifty reported the incident to the police and Yartey went into hiding untill he was arrested on December 16.

“He told the police he was rather a cleaner at the KBTH for six year and learned how to administer medicines,” the Police Commander said, adding that Nartey was still in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
