NGO gives pupils tips on security

Youth Bridge Foundation, a non-governmental organisation which, focuses on youth education in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service has given pupils security tips to protect their homes during the yuletide in Koforidua.

The programme dubbed: "Young people and the Police," is in support of the "Operation Father Christmas" launched by the Ghana Police Service to get rid of miscreants in the communities to facilitate peaceful celebration of Christmas.

The programme also seeks to protect the welfare of children and young people and provides the platform for the police to create awareness and educate children on crime prevention techniques.

Superintendent, Eunice Annor, Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of Ghana Police Service Co-ordinator, advised the pupils to avoid taking alcohol due to the health implication it would have on them.

She urged the children not to accept gifts from strangers and said it could lead to sexual abuse.

Supt Annor advised, the children not to stay out too long and should always walk in the company of their friends and family members.

She asked them to wear bright cloths in the night to ensure that, they could be identified easily in the dark when someone attacks them.

She cautioned them not to give information or send their nude pictures to people they meet on the internet, as such details could be circulated to tarnish their image.

Supt Annor advised the children to be careful about the cars they board, because some drivers use dusters containing chemicals to clean the seats which could drug one to be unconscious to be robbed .

She advised the pupils to desist from using fire crackers which are very dangerous and against the law.
