Power Minister Meets Government Assurance Committee

The Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor Wednesday morning appeared before the Government Assurance Committee in Parliament.

The committee summoned the minister last week over his promise to end the ongoing load shedding exercise by the end of the year, or resign upon his failure to do as promised.

The assurances committee of Parliament pursues all assurances, promises and undertakings given by Ministers and reports to the House on the extent to which such assurances have been carried out.

Dr Donkor briefed the committee on the load shedding exercise and members asked questions deemed relevant to the load shedding.

The meeting however had to be truncated because members had to move into the chamber to attend to other matters such as the reconsideration of the $1billion Eurobond government was seeking Parliament’s approval.

The committee had planned to reconvene after lunch but the Power Minister was scheduled to travel outside of Accra so the meeting came to an abrupt end.

Dr Kwabena Donkor had stated earlier in 2015 that he will resign from his position if he was unable to end the power crisis by the end of the year.

He has since been heavily criticized over the power situation that has further degenerated following his promise to end the ‘dumsor’ by the end of December 2015.
