A joint team from the Military-Police and Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), on Thursday morning intercepted a tipper truck with the inscription �Jah Bless�, with 41 parcels of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The parcels of dried leaves neatly packaged and tightly fastened with adhesive tapes were found on a heap of charcoal. Each package weighed 20 kilos, putting the total weight at 820 kilos and doused in perfume to avoid detection. Mr Habib Osuman, Chief Collector of CEPS and Officer-In-Charge of the Asikuma CEPS checkpoint on the Ho �Accra road, told journalists that the interception of the vehicle, which pulled up at the barrier at around 0330 hours was �definitely a big haul�. He said after the personnel on duty had inspected the vehicle with registration number GE 5997Z the driver was asked to move on. Mr Osuman said following a t�te-�-t�te among the various security units operating at the barrier, a team was dispatched to intercept the vehicle. He said the driver who noticed that he was being trailed, abandoned the vehicle in the centre of the road and escaped into the bushes, leaving behind a bag containing GH� 2,000. Mr Osuman said the driver was likely to be driving towards Accra from Tongor-Dzemeni, in the South-Dayi District. He said the modus operandi of people transporting wee was to pack the dried leaves on top of a heap of charcoal, to avoid detection. Mr Osuman said drug traffickers had gone high tech, explaining that some of them use cell phones to hint collaborators to abandon their consignments to avoid arrest or outwit security personnel. He said information sharing was crucial in the fight against crime in the country.
