President John Dramani Mahama has vowed any member of his government who fails to discharge his duties in the interest of the people of Ghana will either be made to resign or be sacked.
He said it is the duty of every member of his government to work for the greater good of the country and the welfare of its people, hence anything short of that will not be tolerated.

"Those who fall short of that commitment have been, and will continue to be, asked to tender their resignations and relieved of their responsibilities," President Mahama stated in his New Year message delivered to the people on Thursday night.

"Ghana is not for one person, or one political party. Ghana is not for some select group of people; Ghana is for all of us, for our children. Ghana is for the future generations. We should always remember that the actions and attitudes we take now—all of us, not merely those of us in Government—will determine the course of their fate," he warned.

He said his government has been listening to the concerns of the people, and is committed to working for the greater good of Ghana.

President Mahama's warning comes few hours after the country's Power Minister, Dr Kwabena Donkor resigned his post over his failure to solve the electricity crisis that has crippled businesses and taken a toll on the economy in the past three years.

Dr. Donkor, who is an energy expert, was appointed by President Mahama in early 2015 to head the newly created Ministry. He consequently promised to resign should he fail to end the loadshedding by the end of December 2015.

He was highly criticized by Ghanaians, particularly in December, because he failed to live up to their expectation and his promise; something that triggered calls for his resignation or sacking by President Mahama.

But the Power Ministry on December 30, issued a statement announcing an end to loadshedding which has become known as 'dumsor'. A day after, Dr. Donkor resigned his post but sources at the Presidency say he was given the option to resign or be sacked.
