Four More National Health Insurance Authority Officials Arrested by BNI

Some four more officials of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) have been picked up by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Their arrest is part of a major crackdown on some persons including former Chief Executive Sylvester Mensah over an ongoing investigation into the unit’s operations.

Kasapafmonline.com has been told the interdiction is made possible by findings from a six-month-long investigations into acts largely suspected to be fraudulent.

“It has to do with the payment of claims to medical facilities,” a source has told us.

Some nine owners and Medical Directors of 10 medical facilities have also been asked to report to the BNI after the holidays to respond to charges.

Some 48 people have so far been interrogated, we can report, while 17 from district and regional offices have been cautioned and granted bail. Two from the national head office are on bail,  with three others in court.

The investigations were done upon a directive by President John Mahama after series of claims of falsification and bloating of documents to the NHIA.
