In view of recent reports about politicians and journalists being the cause of tension in Ghana, we deem it fit to repeat the publication of a July 2007 research on whom majority of Ghanaians trusted more � the politician or journalist.
It was first published in September 2007: Between June and July 2007, the Daily Dispatch conducted opinion polls and surveys on a wide range of issues. We sought the views of over 70% of registered voters in over 155 constituencies in the 10 regions.
The over 3500 respondents were asked which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants they liked; to rank the performances of the NPP government in certain categories; the basis on which they would vote for a presidential candidate in the December 2008 elections and which of the two professionals they trusted � politician, journalist or none of the two.
Analysis of the results nationally showed that (15.1%) do not trust either the politician or journalist; (12.7%) trusted the politician and an overwhelming majority. (71.7%) trusted the journalist.
The five leading regions which did not trust either the politician or journalist were Central (28.5%); Western (24.4%); Greater Accra (23.7%); Volta (23.7%) and Upper East (11.7%).
In the category of trusting politicians, top five regions were Volta (27.1%); Eastern (15.5%); Western (14.7%) Brong Ahafo (14.2%) and Northern (12.4%).
Upper West (85.5%); Northern (83.3%); Upper East (82.8%); Ashanti (77%) and Brong Ahafo (74.6%) were the top five regions which trusted journalists.
