Sylvester Mensah Arrested

The Bureau of National Investigations are holding the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah in connection with investigations into bloated claims by service providers.

Sylvester Mensah Friday morning voluntarily went to the head offices of the BNI to honour an invitation extended to him to assist in investigations, but has since been held by the agency, much to the chagrin of family members who were expecting him to host a family get-together at his residence at La.

BNI officials had visited his house on Thursday evening but met his absence, following which they left word inviting him to their offices.

Family sources told Graphic Online some service providers and staff of NHIA being probed in the ongoing investigations into financial transactions and other processes at the health insurance authority had mentioned him, hence the invitation to him.

“We understand some of the transactions cover part of his tenure as CEO of NHIA and that some people have mentioned him, that is all we know” volunteered a family source.

Sylvester Mensah was in the middle of June 2015, relieved of his post as CEO after six years in office. His then deputy, Nathaniel Otoo (Deputy Chief Executive, Operations) was appointed as acting CEO.
