Kotoko Signs $50,000 Kit Deal

Ghana’s former premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has signed a $50,000 a year kit sponsorship with Singapore manufacturing giants, Marfo Sports, for the next three years.

The preliminary unveiling ceremony which took place in Kumasi on Saturday was a prelude to the grand launch scheduled for the end of January 2016.
For now, Kotoko have taken delivery of a set of an all-red home jersey and yellow and black apparel for away matches while plans are afoot for an agreed number of sets of jersey including replica to be delivered to fans.

The Country Manager of the Singapore Company, Arenton Ofoe Chiri, said 10,000 replica jerseys would be supplied to fans at a yet-to-be agreed price for starters.

Marfo has been the main supply of equipment to major clubs in Europe and Africa and organisations including the UN for many years and it is expected that Kotoko will feed on the brand to reclaim the premiership title.

Kotoko are expected to wear either the all-red or the yellow and black on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in the club’s international friendly against Serbian giants, Jagodina.

The match lowers the curtains on the club’s 80th anniversary celebration which started four months ago.

The General Manager of the Club, Samuel Opoku Nti, described the deal as timely as the resurgent Kotoko attempt to reclaim the league trophy in the 2016/2017 season.

He noted that the image of Marfo was huge and the ‘only thing we can do to commensurate the gesture is to win the league and reclaim our position as the best in the country and Africa.’
