EC Chairperson Is A 'Dangerous Character'! NPP Activist

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the Chairperson for the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, as a “dangerous character”.

Henry Nana Boakye asserts the EC Chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC),is so bias against the opposition party she finds it difficult to hide it as evidenced in its decision not to compile a new voters register.

The EC’s decision to keep the current register is consistent with a report by a five-member committee it set up to deliberate proposals for a new voters’ register.

The committee among other things said it "finds the arguments for a new register unconvincing and therefore does not recommend the replacement of the current voters’ register."

But whiles dismissing the reasons offered by the EC in rejecting the party’s call for a new voters’ register for the 2016 elections as bogus, the NPP activist pointed out that the opposition party first objected to the composition of the panel because even before the panel sat, the outcome was obvious, since the views of two of its eminent members were public knowledge.

Furthermore he said, the EC boss had already decided against compiling a new register when she told stakeholders at the two-day forum on the voters' register that doing so could open up conflict zones in the country.

"But Mrs Charlotte Osei must have at the back of her mind that she is working for Ghana and not for President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) …she is a dangerous character," Nana Boakye said on Tuesday’s edition of PeaceFM’s flagship programme, “Kokrokoo”.

He challenged the report by the EC Chair that her outfit "was also unable to confirm the authenticity of the Togolese Register used by the NPP in their analysis as the Electoral Commission of Togo declined to provide the EC with a copy of its register or confirm the authenticity of the soft copy of the register used by the NPP".

Nana Boakye revealed the opposition party is conducting its own investigations into Madam Osei's claims that the Togolese Electoral Commission flatly rejected her request to have access to their (Togo) voters register.

…in the next few days, we (NPP) will make public our findings into this matter,” he assured.
