The Ashanti Regional Police Command has requested the management of Boss FM to furnish it with the recordings of its Tuesday, January 5, 2015 morning show during which an NDC activist claimed that the party had stockpiled enough weapons to deal with any trouble maker.

During the show, Robert Owusu, a former NDC Youth Organiser for Fomena, said, “We, the NDC, have stockpiled weapons and sharpened our machetes waiting for anyone who would start the trouble.” 

He insisted even after persistent caution from the host that the Regional Police Commander was listening, that the police commander in the person of DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye was aware of the NDC’s preparations.

“If this is how the 2016 election will go then only 10 people will vote… We have sharpened our cutlasses and will butcher people anyhow… the regional police commander [Kofi Boakyi] supports what I’m saying,” Owusu told the host Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Tuesday.

The Ashanti Regional police was on the high alert after a recent seizure of large cache of arms and ammunitions from the house of Burkinabe gunrunner at Alabar.

Police letter

A copy of the police letter to the radio station intercepted by GraphicOnline and dated January 6, 2016 was signed for the Regional Commander by Chief Superintendent, Mr Peter A. Baba.

When the host of the Morning Boss show, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, cautioned Mr Owusu that he would inform the Regional Police Commander to arrest him for his untoward utterances, Mr Owusu further alleged that the commander was aware of the NDC’s planning from the onset.

The host further asked if he was alleging that the regional commander was in bed with the party, he simply answered, “you can’t force me to divulge anything to you.”

It all started when the New Patriotic Party panelist on the programme stated that the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) not to replace the voters’ register could be a recipe for trouble in this year’s election.

Mr Owusu sharply retorted that “if any trouble happens in this country, it will the CPP and NPP loyalists clamouring for a new register who would die first.

According to him, it was high time the NPP and their allies were stopped from threatening Ghanaians with mayhem if the EC failed to replace the recent register.

Allegations
The Ashanti Regional CID Commander, Superintendent Mr Peter Baba, on Wednesday, formerly wrote to the company requesting for the audio recording of the programme before deciding on the way forward.

The NPP together with some civil society organisations have in recent times put pressure on the EC to replace the current voters’ register with the claim that it was bloated.

Later last year, the commission organised a two-day public forum to collate views on the issue but recently declared that the register would not be replaced.
