The ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] has sought to distanced itself from inflammatory remarks attributed to one of its activists in the Ashanti Region.

Robert Owusu Tilton, a former NDC youth organiser for the Fomena constituency, called for an uprising when he revealed on a Kumasi-based radio station, that the ruling party has a stockpile of deadly weapons, particularly sharpened machetes, to deal ruthlessly with political opponents in this year’s elections.

In a naked propaganda about fictitious ‘NPP aggression and violence’ intended to intimidate the Electoral Commission (EC), the NDC man declared on Boss FM – that his party was ready to tackle any aggression that could wipe out lives on earth in respect of the general election.

He insisted even after persistent caution from the host that the Regional Police Commander was listening, Mr Owusu made it clear that the police commander in the person of DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye was aware of the NDC’s preparations.

“If this is how the 2016 election will go then only 10 people will vote… We have sharpened our cutlasses and will butcher people anyhow… the regional police commander [Kofi Boakyi] supports what I’m saying...

“We will cut people into pieces and assign them a place with the dead with our already sharpened cutlasses,” Robert Owusu Tilton told the host Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Tuesday.

But the National Communications Director for the ruling NDC, Solomon Nkansah, has strongly denied the party’s alleged plan killings of electorates in scheduled November presidential and Parliamentary elections.

He descibes the comments by his fellow party member as "unfortunate" which must be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed Ghana Montie Solomon Nkansah maintained that Robert’s assertion – “Is not the position of the NDC. His words are unfortunate. We [NDC] pray people will forgive him [Robert]”

“He [Robert] will officially apologise to the general public for his unacceptable loose talk” Solomon told the show's sit-in host Kwame Ajetiah. 

Meanwhile, the police in Ashanti have requested for the audio recording of the said programme from the management of Boss FM.
