NDC, Experts In Rigging Elections... - John Boadu

Acting General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu says the press conference by the ruling NDC over the Electoral Commission's decision to maintain the current voters’ register and its subsequent attack on NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Bawumia should be treated as "comic relief".

According to the NPP’s National Organizer, his party will not spend time responding to Asiedu Nketiah’s NDC which has a history of fighting against any process which will ensure transparency, free and fair elections and deepen democracy in the country.

The NDC General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah yesterday in a press conference called on the Ghana Police Service to invite for questioning, the Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for peddling what they termed “falsehood about Ghana’s voter’s register.”

This according to Mr. Nketiah was because, the Electoral Commission’s preliminary report on the calls for a new voters register suggests that Dr Bawumia “peddled falsehood” that has the potential to destabilize the nation.

But reacting to statement made in the press conference, John Boadu who doubles as the Head of Operations Directorate of the NPP 2016 campaign said on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that “left to the NDC, Ghana still use opaque ballot boxes for elections and still use voters Register without pictures and with voters’ ID Cards which have pictures of electorates in Regional capitals, leaving out those in rural areas”.

Highlighting on some of the activities of the NDC against free and fair elections in Ghana, John Boadu mentioned that the NDC in early 2000 went to court to prevent people in rural areas to use voters ID cards which bear their images.

He again cited that Asiedu Nketiah and the NDC fought against the biometric verification machines ahead of the 2012 elections with flimsy excuses; thus the behavior of the NDC against the request for new voters’ register for 2016 election is much expected and does not surprise him.

So NDC is not a party which believes in free and fair elections and they don’t contribute to prospects which will ensure transparency and integrity in our elections. Any attempt by anybody to make sure that we don’t rig elections, NDC is against that person; the mind of NDC is to rig elections and so there should be no improvement in election processes. This is the history of NDC”, he criticized.
