Togos Opposition Party Begs Prez Mahama, EC

Masseme Esse, the Special Advisor to Jean Pierre Fabre, Togo’s main opposition leader of Alliance Nationale Pour le Changement (ANC) has ‘begged’ President John Dramani Mahama and the Electoral Commission to change Ghana’s voters’ register.

There have been a lot of controversies surrounding whether or not to change the country’s voters’ register. A lot of groups including the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are demanding that the register be changed.

The NPP running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is leading the fight in insisting that the current register be changed. According to him, they have evidence proving that Ghana’s register have the names of more than 76,000 Togolese on it.

The EC on the other hand turned down the party’s request for a replacement of the register saying the reasons were unconvincing.

However, Masseme told Nana Yaw Kesse, sit-in host of Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ in an interview that as the beacon of democracy, Ghana should change the voters’ register.

“I beg you I beg EC; I beg President Mahama; he should do new thing because I am proud of Ghana. Ghana should come out and do a new…even if they don’t have money they should request…from their partners and they will help them in Ghana to avoid problem. Because everybody’s eye is on Ghana; I beg you people do it like that to avoid problems”
he stated.
