Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors in the Upper West Region, have been admonished to step up their advisory role to their chief executives for a better and effective performance of the assemblies.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West Regional Minister, who gave the advice during the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) meeting in Wa, noted that Municipal and District Coordinating Directors were supposed to be technocrats acting as technical advisors to the chief executives.

“Anybody can become a chief executive but certainly not anybody can become a Co-ordinating Director, because you need to meet a certain qualification,” he pointed out.

The Regional Minister, however, expressed regret that advisory role of the Co-ordinating Directors in the region was below expectation, and needed to be stepped up to bring about effective development.

“Saying ‘yes sir, yes sir’ all the time is detrimental to development. Advise your Chief Executives appropriately and if they refuse to take your advice, come and report to RCC to take the necessary actions,” he urged.
