STATEMENT: IPP Govt Will Repeal Law Preventing Dual Citizens From Contesting MP Positions

Presidential Candidate of the Independent People’s Party (IPP), Mr. Kofi Akpaloo says the Article 94, Section 2 (a) of the 1992 Constitution which prevents Ghanaians with dual citizenship from qualifying to contest as a Member of Parliament will be abolished when he is elected as President of Ghana.

According to him, his government will pave way for Ghanaian Diasporas to contest for public offices in order to encourage them to come on board and help develop the country.

He emphasized that Ghana now needs every Ghanaian more than ever, stressing that if Barrack Obama is the sitting President of United States of America and Rt. Hon. Lord Paul Yaw Boateng could become a successful MP in British parliament as well as held 2 ministerial positions, then it is time to take a second look of the 1992 Constitution and make amends as soon as possible.

In the statement copied to peacefmonline.com, he stated that “if Ghanaian footballers with dual citizenship can play for our national teams, then likewise other professionals with intellectual ingenuity should be allowed to go into our public services. We need every Ghanaian to develop and transform Ghana”.
