Ghanaian Nominees Snubbed For 2015 CAF Awards Gala

Two Ghanaians nominees would not be present at Thursday’s event, having failed to receive invitation from the continental football’s governing body.

Ghanaian duo Yaw Yeboah and Portia Boakye have been ignored for the 2015 Caf Awards Gala to be held in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday.

Black Satellites and Lille playmaker Yeboah and Black Queens striker Boakye have been nominated for the Youth Player of the Year and the Women’s Player of the Year categories respectively, but neither would be present at the event to be co-hosted by Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim.

“I haven’t received any communication from Caf about the awards ceremony,” Yeboah was quoted as saying by Happy FM.

“In fact, I didn’t even know about my nomination until some friends told me about it when I came to Ghana for Christmas holidays and later, Lille also posted it on their website.”

The 18-year-old old attacker’s situation wasn’t any different from Boakye, who scored the winning goal to hand Ghana gold at the 2015 All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo.

She lamented: “It is highly disappointing that I have been nominated for an award but I haven’t received any form of communication or invitation from Caf to attend the event.

“I haven’t heard anything from the GFA too so I’m still in Kumasi (Ghana). It is very painful and I will feel so hurt if I’m announced winner and I’m not available to receive my award.”

Deputy Black Stars captain Andre Ayew is among the list of candidates for the event’s topmost award, the African Footballer of the Year, alongside Gabon and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Yaya Toure of Manchester City and Cote d’Ivoire.
