My Fathers Bday Celebration Is Meaningful- Sekou Nkrumah

Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr, Chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah Centenary Planning Committee says the celebration will extend over the period of September 2009, and climax somewhere in May 2010. According to him, the nine (9) month long celebration is centered around three main cluster of activities or events, namely; Kwame Nkrumahs Birthday which will be held on 21st of this month, Independence Day on the 6th of March, 2010 and Africa Liberation Day, scheduled to take held on the 25th of May, 2010. There will however, be series of activities, in-between the cluster of events, reflecting on all aspects of the celebrations and spread across the regions. He said this at the launch of Nkrumahs Centenary Celebration. The high point of the first cluster of events will be a series of activities at Nkroful from the 17th-20th of September, and a Grand Pageant and Durbar of Ghanaians and People of African Descent, to be held on Nkrumahs birthday itself, he revealed. According to Prof. Sawyerr, in developing the line-up of activities, the planning committee was guided by the need to make the celebrations truly national and inclusive. We believed it had to also reflect the popular character of the independence, while making known the unique personal leadership and inspiration of Kwame Nkrumah, he added. Later in an interview with PEACEFM News, Sekou Nkrumah, son of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, reiterated that celebrating the works of his late father is worthwhile, because his father was a man (father) not just for Ghanaians, but for the entire African continent.
