David Duncan eyes Ghalca G6 tournament with Kotoko

The Porcupine Warriors coach has revealed that they are hoping to pip the five other clubs to win the inaugural Ghalca tournament.

Asante Kotoko coach David Duncan says his charges have prepared adequately to emerge winners of the coveted Ghalca G6 tournament currently underway at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Porcupine Warriors continue their preseason after a 5-0 drubbing of Serbian side FK Jagodina last weekend to commemorate the club's 80th anniversary celebration.

“We go into every tournament to win it,” Duncan told the club's website. “As I've been saying, even if it is a fun game against the Media XI, we will still go with the intention to win. Any outing of Kotoko is an important match. It will be big news if you don’t get the results.

“Other clubs won’t make news compared to Kotoko, so we are not treating the tournament as a friendly game. For me, even if I wasn’t coaching Kotoko and was coming up to play them with another club, I would put up my best squad on any day. The reputation of the coach is also at stake here in competitions like this,” he added.

Kotoko have been paired with Berekum Chelsea and Ashantigold in Group B. They were drawn bye in the first round of matches but will lock horns with Chelsea on Friday after the Berekum-based club shared the spoil goalless on Thursday with Ashantigold.
