CPP Will Collapse Without Abu Sakara Communication Director

Members of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the Ashanti Region have urged the party’s former flagbearer, Dr. Abu Sakara to return to the party.

According to them the CPP risk imminent collapse if Dr. Sakara does not rescind his decision to resign from the party.

Dr Abu Sakara announced earlier this week [January 5] he was leaving the CPP and will contest the November presidential elections as an independent candidate.

Dr. Sakara, who served as the CPP’s flagbearer in the 2012 general elections, explained his decision to leave the CPP was because of the conduct and misplaced priorities that still dominate decision making in the party among other issues.

In an interview with Citi News, the party’s Deputy Communications Director in the Ashanti Region, Osei Kofi affirmed the CPP youth’s support for Dr. Sakara despite his departure from the party.

He said, “the youth of the CPP support Dr Abu Sakara one hundred percent.”

He furhter highlighted the pivotal role Dr Abu Sakara played by stabilising and reorganizing the CPP following the departure of Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom from the party in 2011.

Mr Osei believes that failure to convince Dr Sakara to return to the CPP will damage the fortunes of the party.

He said, “What it means is that, just like Papa Kwesi Nduom did, Dr Michael Abu Sakara Fauster is going to go with a lot. I’m going to say that the Convention People’s Party will be left with nothing but a skeleton and just a name.”

“Dr Sakara… if not brought back is not only going to affect the party, it is going to damage the party,” he concluded.

CPP Northern Regional Secretariat earlier this week described Dr. Abu Sakara Foster’s resignation as inappropriate.
