President John Dramani Mahama has allayed the fears of Ghanaians regarding the admission of the two Gitmo ex detainees into the country.

According to President John Mahama, the nation should not feel ashamed to have inducted the detainees who he says were imprisoned without trial.

"I have assessed the risk our national security service briefed me...what we should fear is not them because we have them under surveillance."

When asked why the Government of Ghana accepted the US deal to allow the entry of the detainees, President Mahama added that he is a man of compassion and so as part of his Christian duty had to be empathetic towards the plight of the detainees.

He stressed that Ghana is "a safe haven for a lot of people who are displaced or have nowhere to go."

President John Mahama, in a meeting with media practitioners at the Flagstaff House Tuesday, however assured Ghanaians of his commitment to the security of the citizenry.
