Mr Joseph Agyapong, an aspiring presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) said his top priority is to ensure that, every Ghanaian citizen has access to the basic social amenities in life.
This, he, said is the dream and wish of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He explained that, the provision of jobs for the teeming unemployed youth, providing sufficient power to boost economic activities as well as eliminating maternal and child mortality would be his major focus if CPP wins this year’s elections under his leadership.
Mr Agyapong made this comments, when he addressed CPP party faithful at a ceremony to file his nomination as a presidential, candidate of the CPP for the 2016 elections at the party's headquarters in Accra.
He said, ever since Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Dr Hila Limann won power for the Nkrumaist, no flag bearer of the Nkrumahist tradition has been able to win even five per cent of the popular votes in any general election for the CPP and said that trend must change now.
He noted that, through his tour nationwide he has notified about 145 constituencies that, if the CPP could through hard work and resources annex some of these parliamentary seats.
Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim Haruna, First National Vice Chairperson of the CPP urged supporters to conduct themselves in a civil manner and gave the assurance that, at the end of congress whoever emerges as the flag bearer would have the support of the party.
She said the norm of the party is that whoever files
his or her nomination first automatically becomes the first on the ballot paper and since Ms Samia Nkrumah was the first to do so, she takes the first spot.
Mr Seth Mpare, former Eastern Regional Chairman of CPP said should Agyepong win the flagbearership it would mark the genesis of a renaissance and that would lead to the party winning the 2016 elections.
The party opened nominations in December 2015, for aspiring presidential and parliamentary candidates and the primaries is scheduled to take place on January 30, 2016.
