Gitmo Ex-Detainees Not A Security Threat...They Just Need Monitoring - Kofi Adams

National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has waded into discussions regarding the transfer of the Gitmo detainees to Ghana.

According to him, contrary to the fears of Ghanaians that the Gitmo detainees may potentially terrorize the nation; he (Kofi Adams) strongly believes they do not pose any security threat.

He explained that Guantanamo Bay was established by the American government to house prisoners not because they are targets of terrorism.

"Guantanamo Bay is not under the US regulation. They intentionally created the Bay there. So, they could use it to do things which won't affect their own laws and human rights. They know it. It's something that America feels highly disappointed. They know the consequences of getting those people into their systems. It's not the matter of security threat."

He added on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that the US would not have released them to Ghana if they were dangerous.

To him, the Gitmo detainees "need some monitoring and that monitoring will have to be done outside of the Guantanamo Bay before they are released" and this is why Ghana accepted to resettle them on their homeland.
