Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta has added his voice to the controversial Gitmo detainee saga that has for weeks caught the country's attention.

Contrary to fears of Ghanaians that the Gitmo detainees in the country may pose security threat, Kojo Adu Asare says the detainees are "converts" and so their presence should not scare any.

According to him, the Gitmo ex-detainees spent 14 years in prison and they are likely to have turned a new leaf during their stay at the Guantanamo Bay.

“Don’t people change? Don’t people reform? Don’t people’s attitudes change?” he questioned critics of the Mahama's administration decision.

Speaking on Kokrokoo on Peace FM, Hon. Adu Asare noted what should be most important to the country is not the admission of the detainees into Ghana but rather "have we checked to find the current status report on these people so that we can use that as the measure for this particular discussion?”

Their current status after spending those years in prison, in Hon. Adu Asare's view, will help give a better perspective about whether or not the government's decision should be upheld or otherwise.
