Daniel Nii Adjei harbouring World Cup ambitions with Ghana

The playmaker hopes to be part of coach Avram Grant’s selection should Ghana make it to Russia 2018.

TP Mazembe midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei has revealed ambitions to appear at the 2018 Fifa World Cup tournament with Ghana.

Adjei was among five Ghanaians named by coach Patrice Carteron in Mazembe’s squad for the 2015 Fifa Club World Cup in December, alongside Solomon Asante, Gladson Awako, Yaw Frimpong and Richard Kissi Boateng.

“I still have a lot of football in me,” Adjei told Ghana Fans.“My aim is to represent my country in the World Cup.

“Hopefully, I will be playing in the World Cup one day and in [coach] Avram Grant’s books for Ghana.”

Adjei joined the Lubumbashi-based side in 2012 after spending six seasons with Asante Kotoko in the local topflight where he won three league titles.

“It’s a big project, a big club,” he said of Mazembe. “I thought my cycle had ended at Kotoko, because I was very happy to be there. Just then, an offer came and it was the kind that would benefit Kotoko and myself.

“I wanted to join a new project. The project here is amazing, for the present and for the future. It didn’t take much time to accept their offer.”

Adjei was named in Grant’s starting XI for Ghana’s 3-2 win over Congo in a friendly fixture last September after receiving a late call-up.

With Mazembe, the playmaker won the 2015 Caf Champions League.
