Dispatch rider dies in motorcycle crash at Burma Camp

A Navy Officer died on Friday after he lost control of the motorcycle he was on and crashed. Another rider, who reportedly suffered severe injuries is being treated at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Footage of the accident appears to show the motorcycle crashed after the rider took a sharp bend. The incident happened during a ceremony to mark the handing over to a new Chief of Defense Staff of Ghana’s Armed Forces, Air Vice Marshal Samson-Oje.

Military personnel present and onlookers could be seen rushing to the scene following the crash. This accident comes amid a debate over the safety of people who use state vehicles for official purposes. Last August, Samuel Nuamah, a Ghanaian Times Presidential Correspondent at the Flagstaff House, died on the spot when a bus conveying him and other presidential reporters from Ho, in the Volta Region to Accra, after covering the President’s assignment, bust a tyre and somersaulted before crashing. Other reporters were severely injured.
