Stay Away From Our Demo Organised Labour Warns Parties

Organised Labour has asked political parties 'to stay away from the demonstration'.

According to the group, they have been informed that some political parties are planning to politicise their demonstration which is basically for workers to express their displeasure over the 'astronomical' increases in taxes.

The demonstration is also to protest against the refusal of government to reduce the recent increases in utility tariffs.

The demonstration which is slated for Wednesday, January 20 is only for workers; a statement issued by the group has indicated.

“We would like to emphasize that the demonstration is for workers. We therefore advise all political parties to stay away from the demonstration. We assure all working people of Ghana that all is set for a peaceful nationwide demonstration to express our outrage with the insensitive increases in taxes, levies and utility tariffs. All workers in both formal and informal sectors are expected to participate fully in the demonstration” the group said.

The routes for the demonstrations in the regional capitals will be announced by leaders of Organised Labour in each region.

Organised Labour on Friday at a press conference indicated that there is a limit to what Ghanaians can bear and appealed to formal and informal sectors to join the protest to express their outrage over the insensitive increases in taxes, levies and utility prices at a time Ghanaians are facing difficulty in the economy.
