Central Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has categorically stated that the region has been the most beneficial region in the country in terms of government investment and infrastructure ever since the Mahama-led administration assumed office three years ago.
According to him, the ruling administration did not turn its back on the people of Central region when the late President who is a son of the land, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, passed on, thereby putting smiles on the faces of the people who had hope in the late president to turn the fortunes of the region around.
He revealed that the region alone has enjoyed government investment over ₵355 million over the last three years which will change the face of the region to attract more tourists and investors to the area.
In view of this, he said the performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will result in a resounding victory for the party in the region to continue the work as well as to give the region the needed facelift it deserves.
The regional minister made this known during a press soiree for media practitioners in the Central region over the weekend in Cape Coast.
He explained that road construction and rehabilitation works worth $200 million is on-going in the region while ten polyclinics and several CHPS compounds as well as a new regional hospital will commence within the year to ensure quality healthcare delivery in the region.
Mr. Quansah added that over $60 million was being spent by government to revamp economic and commercial activities in the region which includes the revamp of Komenda Sugar Factory, Kotokuraba Market Complex, Cape Coast Sports Stadium among many others scattered across the region.
“The Ghana Airport Company Limited has also agreed to build an airport instead of an airstrip in the region to facilitate effect transmission of these commercial and economic activities to make the region very vibrant,” he further added.
He again pointed out that the region benefitted from nine of the Community Day Senior High Schools in the country while expansion and rehabilitation works are currently on-going at the various SHS and tertiary institutions in the area.
The minister revealed that a fisheries college which is about 60% complete is being constructed at Anomabo and will be completed by the end of the year while a new nursing training college was underway at Assin Fosu with a midwifery school being built at Mfantsiman.
The minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantsiman indicated that the region was also 79% covered when it comes to potable water distribution, adding that Ghana Water Company was seriously considering re-engineering the whole water projects in Cape Coast to ensure frequent flow of water for the inhabitants.
“The ruling government has also increased rural electrification in the region from less than 40% to 80% coverage and all of these projects will translate into votes for President John Dramani Mahama in this year’s general elections,” he said.
He pointed out that the region will poll 57% votes and win 20 out of the total 23 seats to ensure a resounding victory for the NDC in this year’s elections.
The minister also commended journalists in the region for not inflaming passions to ensure peace and tranquility, and entreated them to do more, especially as the country prepares to go to the polls this year.
