Nana Addo, A Brilliant Lawyer?...I Feel Sad For Him; He Poorly Interpreted Act 762 - Sam George

NDC Parliamentary candidate of Ningo Prampram, Sam George has raised doubts about the stature of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as a lawyer of great repute.

The 2016 New Patriotic Party (NPP) is considered as one of the brilliant lawyers the country has ever produced and his law firm is touted to have churned out legal luminaries in the country.

A Ghana law report acclaims Nana Addo as a brilliant law expert.

But according to Sam George, Nana Addo may have been confused in his law lessons when he recently commented on government's decision to resettle two ex-detainees from Guantanamo Bay in Ghana.

He stated emphatically on Peace FM's Kokrokoo that Nana Addo's brilliant legal accolades are only a figment of the imagination of Danquah Busia elements.

That description can only come from the Danquah Busia tradition.

He expounded that if Nana Addo is indeed who the law report claims he is; then why did he misinterpret Section 35 of Act 762

Nana Addo, commenting on the Gitmo detainees' transfer to Ghana, accused the government of contravening Section 35 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2008 (Act 762).

According to Nana Addo, Section 35 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (Act 762) prohibits the transaction into which President John Mahama had with the United States government regarding the Gitmo detainees in Ghana.

He also bemoaned the President's decision not to consult the major stakeholders in the country on the transfer of the detainees, saying his failure has heightened tensions among Ghanaians.

But speaking to the issue on PeaceFM, Sam George made mockery of what he noted to be Nana Addo's inability to soundly interpret Act 762.

You say he is a doyen of our laws. We accept but he cannot even understand and interpret Act 762. He poorly interpreted Section 35 of Act 762 yesterday (on Tuesday). I’m saddened for him. Unfortunately, I don’t know what happened yesterday. Maybe he didn’t sleep well or they gave him something to eat which affected his stomach. So, it affected his interpretation of Act 762.

“Because the interpretation he put on Act 762, he did not give reasonable grounds. The two men have never been convicted or charged with any acts of terrorism. So, that Act he quoted; you don’t understand.

Alluding to Nana Addo's reference to the Gitmo detainees as high risk to Ghana, Sam George could not help but dig up the alleged dirt on Nana Addo from a wiki leaks report.

He (Nana Addo) said the two gentlemen are terrorists who pose a high risk to Ghana and he quoted and referenced a 2007 leaked US Memo…Let us also go back and discuss the leaked documents from the US Embassy which says that Mr. Akufo- Addo is a known womanizer who is an occasional marijuana user and has poor organizational skills.

By this description, he wondered how Ghanaians would vote him into power during the November 7, 2016 elections.
