The Ghana top-flight league is scheduled to commence next month after a meeting between executive committee and premier league board.
Ghana Premier League new season has finally been billed to kick start on the weekend of February 20-21 after litigations mauled the earlier proposed date.
Techiman City were alleged by Wa African United to have indulged in bribery and corruption en route to their qualification to the premiership while Tema Youth FC dragged GFA to Court of Arbitration for Sports following a ruling involving Dreams FC.
However, the premier league board led by newly appointed chairman Ashford Tetteh Oku held a meeting with the executive committee of the football association this week to thrash out all the outstanding issues which have delayed the league’s commencement.
“The start of league has been proposed by PLB to start next month after all the litigations have been put to an end,” a source told Goal.
“The executive committee members and the premier board met and a decision was arrived that clubs must be given at least three weeks to complete their preseason since some just begun after breaking camp following the uncertainties surrounding the start of the league.
“With all things being equal, the first week of the league will start on Saturday February 20 and remaining matches to continue on Sunday,” the source added.
On Wednesday, Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) issued a press release through president Kwabena Yeboah urging the football association to settle all disputes on time as clubs are incurring a lot of cost without games.
Goal understands that Techiman City, Dreams FC and Ebusua Dwarfs have been approved as the newly promoted clubs while B.A United, Heart of Lions and Great Olympics have been demoted to the second-tier league.
